Camping Instruction Workshop
Each new Crew will receive an orientation from older Crew members and the
Alumni Mountain Crew during the fall. The Workshop is designed to orient
new Crew members to the Venture Crew Program. Through a series of
stations, new Crew members gain hands-on experience to prepare them for the
first week-end campout. The Workshop includes:
Duty Roster Form.
Equipment Checklist Form.
Dining Fly Set-up.
Water Purification Techniques/Misc. Stuff Sacks/Repair Bag.
Safety with Backpacking Stoves/Coals/Lanterns/Fuel/Saws.
Cooking Equipment/Spice Bag.
Food/Clean-up/First Aid.
Knots & Maps.
Bear Bag.
No Trace Camping
The seven principles of No Trace Camping are followed by Venture Crew
One. These include:
1. Plan Ahead and Prepare.
2. Camp and Travel on Durable Surfaces.
3. Pack it In, Pack it Out.
4. Leave What you Find.
5. Minimize the Use of Campfires.
6. Respect Wildlife.
7. Respect Others.
