Parent Support

Parents join the Crew when their son or daughter signs-up.  Parents are needed to support the Crew, provide transportation, meet the BSA adult two-deep leadership policy, and make the program a success. 

Crew Committee

The Venture Crew One Crew Committee is made-up of adults who have oversight over the Crew.  The Crew Advisor reports to this committee.  The Chartered Organization Representative serves as an ex-officio member of this Committee.  Each of the Crews is represented on the Crew Committee as well as others.  The Crew Committee meets periodically.

Crew Advisors

The Crew Advisor is the responsible adult for Venture Crew One that is appointed by the Chartered Organization.  Jim W is currently our Crew Advisor.  His role is to convey the Venture Crew One Program to the Youth Leaders of Venture Crew One, including each of the Mountain Crew Leaders.  The Mountain Crew Leaders are alumni V-Crew One attending college in the Austin area.  Their responsibility is to guide each Crew in achieving its purpose and in realizing a successful wilderness experience on each trek.  The Crew Advisor is assisted by Assistant Crew Advisors, who are assigned to individual Crews.  These adults and parents primarily supervise the youth's operation of Venture Crew One.

 Parent Committees

Venture Crew One has several Parent committee structures to assist the youth operate each Crew and Venture Crew One.

Transportation Committee:

This Committee has two or three parents for each Crew.  The Transportation Committee of each Crew is responsible for the following:
bulletIn August of each year, prepare a list of drivers committed to driving/camping on Crew campouts during the year.
bulletIn August, schedule drivers to take the Crew on each campout during the year and the summer trek.
bulletPrepare and submit to the Scout Office prior to each trip a BSA Tour Permit for each campout and the summer trek.  For trips  exceeding 500 miles a National Tour Permit must be submitted to the Scout Office well in advance of the trek.
 

Equipment Committee:

This Committee has one or two parents for each Crew.  The Equipment Committee of each Crew is responsible for assisting each Crew's Quartermasters carry-out the following:
bulletOrganizing and supervising an all Crew work-session one week-end in early Fall and late Spring to inventory the Venture Crew equipment, prepare an order list, and replenish each equipment box when the equipment is delivered.
bulletIn late Spring paint, as needed, the equipment boxes.
bulletIn August prepare a wish-list of equipment needs of the Crew.
bulletDishwasher clean the cooking equipment after each campout and the summer trek, and return to the appropriate equipment box.
bulletAir-dry any wet equipment following each campout and return to the appropriate equipment box.

Service Project Committee:

This Committee has three or four parents for each Crew.  The Service Project Committee of each Crew is responsible for the following:
bulletSecure parents to assist with the Project.
bulletDetermine and secure tools and equipment for the Project.
bulletOrganize a luncheon for the day of the annual Service Project.
bulletDetermine and secure preparation of the meal for the number of Crew members and parents anticipated.
bulletDeliver and organize distribution of the meal.

Parent/Alumni Mountain Crew Leaders

All activities are adult-supervised following the BSA adult two-deep, leadership policy.  Adults that provide transportation and Alumni V-Crew One Mountain Crew Leaders serve as the ramrods for each activity.  These adults must attend Youth Protection Training before participating as a ramrod.  The ramrods are responsible to ensure that:

bulletBSA Capital Area Scout Council Office approves the activity.
bulletAll permission slips and other required forms for the activity are complete and turned-in.
bulletAll fees are collected.
bulletEach Crew member is transported to and from any activity outside the Austin city-limits in an adult-driven vehicle and using a seat-belt.
bulletA reasonable adult/youth member ratio is maintained for the duration of the activity.
bulletCrew members are prepared and have secured the necessary provisions for the trek.
